DANIEL ROZENHALL and STEN BACKMAN met in the early 2000s and initially worked together with record productions for the label Fylkingen Records, of which Rozenhall was a record producer and Backman made graphic design works for record covers. Since 2014, Rozenhall and Backman have made collaborative works with Rozenhall’s music and Backman’s visuals.
Daniel Rozenhall is a composer, visual artist and record producer, based in Stockholm. His most recent solo record, the LP “Den förföljdes gryning”, was released by iDEAL Recordings in March 2019. As a record producer, Rozenhall is presently active with the label Firework Edition Records, together with Leif Elggren and Kent Tankred. In his own music, Rozenhall works with various synthesizers and concrete sound sources, creating electroacoustic soundscapes with a surrealistic, nightmarish and sometimes psychedelic character. The listener is invited into a sonic world where the most irrational and distorted veins of the human subconscious are being explored.
Sten Backman is a visual artist, composer and graphic designer, based in Stockholm. His fields of work include many areas, such as branding and identity, editorial, interactive applications, product design, websites, exhibition design, music videos and record covers. He has worked together with big corporations as well as small independent clients, and in 2006 he founded his own company, Great Big Container. During 2018-2019, Backman has collaborated with J.G Thirlwell (aka Foetus) and, among other things, he has made the visuals to the music of Thirlwell´s album “Xordox” – a work which has been showed in London, Dublin, Los Angeles and New York.
In 2018-2019, Rozenhall and Backman have made two large tours in Asia together with the project Lab for Life-Long Sound Dysfunctions (LLLSD), including performances in China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Japan and Thailand.
